This course deals with the fundamentals of rock physics which addresses the relationships between geophysical observations and the physical properties of rocks. This course covers basic rock physics concepts including Gassman fluid substitution, standard rock physics models, multiphase reservoir properties (i.e., porosity, permeability, saturation, pore connectivity, and structure), reservoir characterization for rock physics modeling, and wave phenomena analytics. Particular emphasis is given to applying rock physics theories to interpret the petrophysical and geophysical data.
